Europe is emerging in hydrogen fuel cell technology, driving innovation in clean energy and sustainable mobility. European companies are investing in fuel cell systems to enable zero-emission future. In this blog, we explore some of the leading European companies developing hydrogen fuel cell solutions.

AFC Energy (based in the United Kingdom) focuses on hydrogen fuel cell systems for stationary power generation. Their solutions replace diesel generators and provide clean, reliable energy for industrial, maritime, and remote applications. Replacing fossil fuel generation with hydrogen fuel cells is a part of their vison. They want to create a world full of green technology.

02. H2 Energy

H2 Energy is a company based in Switzerland. They are working on creating and operating hydrogen ecosystems. They focus on heavy-duty trucks, fuel cell power systems and hydrogen production through renewable energy. Using renewable energy sources (Like wind, solar and hydro), the company produced green hydrogen. For heavy duty fuel cell trucks, they have made partnership with Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility, and first series production fuel cell trucks have been launched in Switzerland in 2020.

03. Symbio

Symbio (French company) is a joint venture between Faurecia, Michelin and Stellantis. For mobility and stationary applications, they industrialize StackPack hydrogen-electric fuel cell systems. In 2023 Symbio inaugurates their first gigafactory SymphonHy that is the Europe's largest site for producing hydrogen fuel cells. It opens the doors for large-scale production by annual output of 50,000 fuel cell systems.

04. Bosch

Bosch (German Company) is an engineering and technology company. They produce fuel cell stacks that generates the electrical energy that is used to power the fuel cell electric vehicle. For eclectic commercial vehicles and buses, they make a highly integrated solution for fuel cell that generates electricity from hydrogen. It is mostly used in applications that are for long-distances. Bosch operates its own hydrogen truck at their Nuremberg plant in 2025 which is equipped with Bosch fuel-cell power module (FCPM).

05. Alset Global GmbH

Alset Global GmbH (Austrian company) specializes in hydrogen based clean mobility products. They developed an engine that can run on either pure petrol, pure hydrogen or combination of both called Hybrid Hydrogen internal combustion engine. This technology gives us a sustainable and clean alternative to combustion engines that are petrol-based engines. During the Nürburgring 24-Hour race Alset's Hybrid Hydrogen technology was featured on an Aston Martin Rapide S in Germany where it became the first hydrogen-powered car to generate zero CO₂ emissions while competing in a 24-hour race during an international motor race.

06. Duramea

Duramea (Austrian Company) is developing and manufacturing Membrane Electrode Assemby (MEA) the Durable Heart of fuel cells and electrolysers. They make green hydrogen possible by building MEA. They are making high performance MEAs that makes longer lifetimes and improves performance of hydrogen systems by providing higher-purity hydrogen for clean-energy applications. Their products include Cut-to-size 3-, 5- and 7-layer MEAs that is available to customer specification on request. They are also working on AEM Water electrolysis MEAs and their plan is to launch that in July 2026.
